Saint Ephraim of Nea Makri (1384–1426) was a 15th-century monk and martyr who lived at the Monastery of the Annunciation on Mount Amomon in Attica, Greece. Following Ottoman invasions, he was captured, tortured for months, and brutally killed by hanging and impalement on May 5, 1426. His relics were miraculously discovered in 1950 by Nun Makaria. Life and Martyrdom Early Life: Born Konstantinos Morphes on September 14, 1384, in Trikala, he became a monk at age 14 to escape Ottoman conscription.
