In addition to looking unprofessional, this can cause binding when you turn, and tight bends that create excess friction in the cable making for a hard or rough pull. In a worst case scenario, this can make throttle cables bind which is straight up dangerous. I shorten a lot of cables and have refined this process over the years. I don’t recommend the screw on type ferrules for long
