“Stranger Things” pulled off a thrilling ending by using two Prince songs in the final episode of the beloved Netflix series. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer secured the rights to “Purple Rain” and When Doves Cry,” both from Prince’s Grammy Award-winning 1984 album.
The show’s true secret sauce, however, has always been its human moments: Will and Robin (Maya Hawke) coming out, the relationship between Lucas and Max (Sadie Sink), Hopper’s (David Harbour) painful backstory and his deep bond with Eleven, and countless other moments that made the extraordinary feel personal. And, of course, the humor.
The final episode, titled “The Rightside Up,” will simultaneously drop in select North American theaters and on Netflix. It will be available to view starting Dec. 31 at 6 p.m. MST.
The Stranger Things season five finale episode does not have a traditional post-credits scene. The final battle concludes at approximately the halfway point of the episode. After that is what could be considered an extended epilogue.
