Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) announced on Tuesday that Senate Republicans will “hold” any budget reconciliation framework passed by the House to use as a potential back-up plan to avoid a government shutdown at the end of September.

The House passed a short-term funding patch Tuesday night that is designed to head off a partial government shutdown this fall. The continuing resolution passed on a mostly party-line vote of 220-205,
