CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - 2026 begins the way 2025 ended with cold temperatures in the teens and 20s, with wind chills in the single digits. Expect a few light snow showers Thursday evening across the area that could bring a quick inch or so of snowfall.

THURSDAY (New Year’s Day): The start of 2026 will be cold! Morning temperatures will be below zero for many. Another shot of light snow is possible in the early morning, mainly in the northern valley and northwest MN. Afternoon highs only make it into the single digits under a partly sunny sky. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC) - We will finish out 2025 dry and chilly! If you plan to celebrate the new year, make sure you dress warm this evening. I recommend warm layers with gloves and a hat. Temperatures will drop into the 30s by the midnight hour.
NEW YEARS DAY: FIRST ALERT. Snow likely for the first half of the day with broken snow showers into the afternoon. Highs in the 20s and low 30s. NW wind will pick up during the afternoon with gusts 30-35 mph. Areas of blowing snow possible.
Looking ahead to the start of 2026, a gradual warming trend is expected. Highs will rebound into the 60s, with overnight lows returning to the 40s and 50s. This warmup will also bring a chance for a few rain showers and possibly some rumbles of thunder later in the week.
